Flashing that Cold Shoulder

The cold shoulder trend has really taken over.

I will never forget the first time I tried on a cold shoulder top. It was at Nordstrom Rack in the summer of 2016. I didn't realize it was cold shoulder until I had brought into the dressing room and put it on. My immediate reaction was "what is this?" I thought it looked trashy and cheap. I gave the cold shoulder my shoulder and didn't look back for awhile. It wasn't until the spring of this year that I started to see more and more styles. The more I saw, the more I liked it. Thinking about to that first top I had tired on, it was more of a "slit" cutout than an actual cold shoulder. I'll admit, I was wrong about this trend last fall. Here's a look at what cold shoulder pieces are available in the shop.

This shift dress is one of my favorites. The print, the cold shoulder, the fabric; it's all perfect. In a previous post, I wrote about how I am unsure about shift dresses. This doesn't really feel like a shift dress to me. I feel like this is another dress that could be worn throughout the year. If you trade the booties for sandals, you've got yourself a casual spring/summer dress. Bring the boots back into the picture, and you've got your perfect fall dress.

This is my favorite way to wear a cold shoulder: an easy relaxed top with jeans. Similar to the dress above, you can wear this during the fall, but also during the spring and summer. I will say, this is more of a spring floral. Living in the midwest, it'll be hard to wear this during the winter, but while it's still warmer out, it'll be the first cold shoulder i pull out of my closet. I do have booties on in this photo, but again, swap those out for a pair of sandals and you have a versatile outfit.

I'll admit, this cold shoulder cut out is a bit different and I wasn't really sure what to expect when I opened the shipment. After trying it on, this top is growing on me. I really like how the cut outs stop at the elbow, and you have an entire sleeve from the elbow down. This is a little tight on my arm because my arms are not that tiny, but once the top was in place, I felt that I had enough room to comfortably move around. I'm still getting used to this type of cold shoulder, but this is definitely one of my favorite styles.
